Wharfedale

About this resource

Wharfedale was founded in Yorkshire in 1932 by Gilbert Briggs, whose first loudspeaker was built in Ilkley. Its official history connects the brand name with the River Wharfe valley and traces the company’s development through several ownership changes. It records acquisition by International Audio Group in 1997, with design and engineering continuing in the UK and manufacturing arrangements extending beyond Britain. ^{[1] [2]}

The present homepage distinguishes bookshelf and floorstanding loudspeakers, centre channels, subwoofers, installation products and home-cinema systems. Modern families include DIAMOND 12i, EVO 5, AURA and ELYSIAN R, while the Heritage section includes LINTON, SUPER LINTON, DENTON, SUPER DENTON, DOVEDALE and ASTON. That structure connects compact stereo listening, larger room systems and multi-channel applications without suggesting that one speaker design covers every role. ^{[1] [2]}

The history describes Air Motion Transformer development in ELYSIAN and EVO4 and later UK manufacturing initiatives; the current catalogue separately marks UK-made products. British design should therefore not be read as a blanket claim that every Wharfedale speaker is built in Britain. The Heritage and modern-series sections make useful contrasting starting points, with category pages clarifying matching centre speakers and subwoofers. Manuals, warranty information, demonstration requests and dealer or distributor listings support model-specific research beyond the company’s long historical narrative. ^{[1] [2]}
