SEAS
Norwegian loudspeaker-driver manufacturer founded in 1950, with transducer families and official DIY speaker projects. Its current site pairs component engineering with complete design examples, including wide-baffle three-way kits and new fabric-dome midrange and glass-dome tweeter developments.
About this resource
SEAS was founded in 1950 as a spin-off from Norwegian radio manufacturers Radionette and Tandberg. Its name expands to Scandinavian Electro Acoustic Systems. The official history traces a progression from drivers for radios and televisions to specialized hi-fi transducers, explaining why the site is principally a driver-engineering resource rather than a catalogue of finished consumer electronics. [1] [2]
Its current navigation separates driver families including Excel, Prestige, Exotic, Extreme and Orbit, alongside DIY kits and vintage-driver information. Recent engineering coverage includes the M64F001 fabric-dome midrange and T27GL001-DXT glass-dome tweeter. The latter uses a machined aluminum faceplate and SEAS’s DXT directivity-control approach. These features identify the company’s transducer work without repeating vendor claims of unique audible superiority. [1] [2]
The DIY section connects those components to speaker designs. Storeglimt is presented as a wide-baffle three-way using Excel drivers, while 403 Revisited reinterprets the earlier KIT 403 design as a three-way standmount. For builders, those project pages provide a different starting point from selecting an isolated driver. The history section traces the move from radio and television drivers to customer-influenced hi-fi designs, while vintage-driver information is grouped separately. [1] [2]
