About this resource
Hypex Electronics designs and supplies Class D amplification and associated electronics for hi-fi and professional-audio applications. Founded by Jan-Peter van Amerongen in Groningen in 1996, it retains headquarters in the Netherlands while manufacturing in its own Malaysian factory. Its business includes both general modules and custom development for selected customers, rather than only complete amplifiers sold to listeners. [1]
The company’s amplifier technologies include UcD, NCORE, NCOREx and Nilai. Its history dates UcD adoption to 2003 and NCORE’s introduction to 2011, while Nilai was released for DIY users in 2023. The supporting portfolio includes switch-mode power supplies, DSP and plate amplification, enabling active-speaker or system-control projects as well as conventional amplifier assemblies. [1]
OEM and hobbyist routes are distinct. Hypex Direct is the current name of the dedicated DIY operation, replacing DIYclassD.com in 2025, while the main business provides engineering support and custom services to manufacturers. Published applications include active loudspeakers, home theatre, studio systems, live sound and musical-instrument amplification. Module-family and power-supply pages therefore matter more than consumer amplifier reviews when investigating what is needed for a particular build. [1]
