About this resource
Polk Audio began in Baltimore in 1972 with Matthew Polk, Sandy Gross and George Klopfer. Its official history describes an early workshop shared with living space and the later Monitor 7 and Monitor 10 loudspeakers. The present catalogue reaches beyond two-channel speakers into home-theater and soundbar systems, while the homepage continues to identify Baltimore as its engineering base. [1] [2]
Stereo Dimensional Array, or SDA, is a recurring part of its technical history, introduced to address interaural crosstalk in stereo reproduction. The company describes later use in soundbars and a return to loudspeakers with the Legend family. VoiceAdjust is a separate feature designed to raise dialogue relative to the rest of a soundtrack. These design aims should not be confused with independent proof of superiority over other systems. [2]
Monitor XT, Signature Elite and Reserve are the three conventional speaker families highlighted on the current homepage. MagniFi Mini AX offers a more compact soundbar route and is described with Dolby Atmos and DTS:X compatibility alongside SDA and VoiceAdjust. Setup articles on surround systems, subwoofer placement and Atmos provide related entry points. The useful first distinction is therefore component-based stereo or cinema speakers versus a more integrated TV-audio system. [1]
