Pass Labs
Pass Labs is an audio-electronics manufacturer founded by Nelson Pass in 1991, with roots in single-ended Class A amplifier design. Its range includes separate and integrated amplification, preamplifiers and headphone amplification, while the XA30.8 provides a current example of its Class A approach.
About this resource
Pass Labs was founded by Nelson Pass in 1991, initially developing single-ended Class A amplifiers from a home workshop. The first Aleph 0 monoblock shipped in 1992, followed by stereo and preamplifier designs. Its published history describes an in-house machine shop and the later introduction of SuperSymmetric amplifier circuitry; the SuperSymmetric X1000 arrived in 1998, followed by balanced Class A XA amplifiers in 2002. [1]
The company’s amplifier history connects the earlier Aleph topology with the X designs, followed by XA amplifiers combining aspects of both in balanced Class A form. The current XA30.8 product page identifies it as a stereo Class A power amplifier rated at 30 watts per channel into eight ohms. It also specifies balanced and single-ended input impedances and 370 watts of idle consumption, making operating class a practical issue as well as a circuit label. [1] [2]
The live product pages distinguish X150.8 Class AB power amplification, the INT-25 integrated amplifier, XP-12 preamplifier and HPA-1c headphone amplifier. HPA-1c can also serve as a line-level preamplifier. Each product page provides specifications and downloadable documentation alongside review quotations, separating technical information from endorsements. Those formats define substantially different system roles, even where discrete circuitry and Class A operation recur in the range. [6] [3] [4] [5]
