Universal Audio makes recording hardware and music-production software, including Apollo and Volt interfaces, UAD plug-ins and LUNA. Apollo centres on onboard DSP and modelled preamp behaviour, while Volt offers a USB recording route with features that vary across standard and Max models.
About this resource
Universal Audio’s official company presentation traces its recording-product heritage to 1958. Its present catalogue includes audio interfaces, microphones, guitar pedals, UAD software and the LUNA digital audio workstation. The intended audience is music makers and recording professionals, making it a production resource rather than simply a domestic playback-equipment brand. [1]
Apollo interfaces combine conversion with onboard DSP for running UAD plug-ins during recording and monitoring. Unison technology models aspects of microphone-preamp behaviour, including input impedance, gain and saturation. The family includes desktop, rackmount and networked formats, with channel counts, DSP resources and Dante connectivity varying by model. UAD Console handles routing, levels and effects-monitoring arrangements. [2]
Volt is the separate USB-interface route, with the current page distinguishing second-generation Tone Shaping models from earlier Vintage-preamp versions. Max variants add compressor presets, while Smart Display and auto-gain availability are explicitly model-dependent. The comparison tables are useful for separating input counts and processing facilities. LUNA and plug-in bundles form part of the wider recording workflow, but Apollo’s onboard DSP should not be assumed to exist in every Volt interface. [3] [1]
