PMC is a British loudspeaker manufacturer founded in 1991, with studio-monitoring roots and separate home-audio and installation ranges. Its Advanced Transmission Line bass loading uses a damped internal path behind the driver, while the catalogue includes both active and passive system arrangements.
About this resource
PMC, the Professional Monitor Company, was founded in 1991 by Peter Thomas of the BBC and Adrian Loader of FWO Bauch. Its first product was the BB5-A active main studio monitor. The official company account connects that professional-monitoring background with home loudspeakers and states that its speakers are designed and hand-built in the UK, with component matching and completed-speaker testing. Its signature Advanced Transmission Line, or ATL, places a bass driver at one end of a long, acoustically damped internal tunnel. The design aims to absorb rearward mid and high frequencies while using low-frequency output from the line to supplement the driver’s forward radiation. PMC discusses foam specification, line geometry and driver design as interdependent variables. Laminair vents address airflow at the line exit; the transmission-line page explains why line dimensions, foam placement and drive-unit parameters have to be optimised together. [1] [2] [3]
The site separates studio, home-audio and custom-installation routes. Studio categories include nearfield, midfield and main monitors; home navigation includes prodigy, active twenty5i, fact and SE families. The ci series connects with installation work, while amplifiers, subwoofers and upgrades form related categories. Comparing active and passive arrangements is especially useful before selecting electronics. Technology pages explain the shared bass-loading approach, and the support sections provide service requests, spares, firmware and product archives. [1] [2] [3]
