Lowther Loudspeakers DIY
Lowther’s DIY resource provides official cabinet plans matched to its full-range drive units. The current page distinguishes free self-build drawings from an Acousta 115/116 pre-cut kit that is still being prepared and is not yet on sale.
About this resource
Lowther Loudspeakers DIY is the manufacturer’s official cabinet-planning and self-build resource, not a separate speaker brand. It centers projects on Lowther full-range drive units paired with suitable enclosure designs. The page explains that the builder normally sources cabinet material and constructs the enclosure, with official plans providing internal geometry and assembly guidance for the chosen design. [1]
Available plan families include Acousta 90, Acousta 115/116, Acousta 124, Bicor 200, Accolade 2, Accolade 4 and Academy. The current Acousta 115/116 presentation recommends PM6A Sinfonia drive units and also lists DX3 and EX3 Concert alternatives. Lowther describes these as crossover-free full-range projects, where matching the cabinet to the driver is central rather than designing a separate multiband crossover. [1]
The FAQ grades builds from beginner through advanced and identifies accurate cutting, airtight glued joints and finishing as practical requirements. MDF or Baltic birch plywood are suggested materials. Importantly, the advertised CNC flat pack is not yet on sale: registering interest is neither an order nor a payment, and the first release is intended for the UK. The free-plan route is therefore the available starting point, not a promise of an immediately purchasable complete cabinet kit. [1]
