Legacy Audio

About this resource

Legacy Audio began in 1983 with designer Bill Dudleston and remains focused on loudspeakers and their associated electronics. Its current company account describes family ownership and cabinet design, manufacture, assembly and finishing in Springfield, Illinois. It also discusses working with specialist driver fabricators internationally, so the Springfield cabinet-production statement should not be expanded into a claim that every raw component is manufactured locally. ^{[1] [2]}

The catalogue distinguishes passive speakers requiring external amplification from powered models with internal amplifiers. Aeris XD combines internal amplification and DSP, while Signature XD is described as an internally powered four-way design. Focus SE/XD illustrates alternative amplification arrangements within a familiar family. Subwoofers, centre speakers, surrounds, on-wall systems and studio speakers extend the catalogue beyond two-channel floorstanders. ^{[1] [2]}

The company’s construction account explains thick MDF panels, extensive bracing, hand-built crossovers and pair matching as methods intended to control cabinet vibration and production consistency. Its cabinet account describes interlocking CNC-milled parts, with thicker front baffles on larger towers and bracing above and below driver compartments. Valor, Aeris and Focus provide entry points into the larger systems, while the amplifier-and-DSP category shows their electronic partners. Factory visits are by appointment, and the dealer network offers another way to compare the different system architectures in person. ^{[1] [2]}
