HEDD Audio

About this resource

HEDD stands for Heinz Electrodynamic Design, a Berlin-based company founded in 2015 by loudspeaker designer Klaus Heinz and musicologist Frederik Knop. Its products serve recording, mastering and home listening, with monitors, subwoofers and HEDDphone headphones sharing the catalogue. The official account connects Heinz’s earlier work at ADAM Audio with his continuing development of Air Motion Transformer technology. ^{[1] [2]}

AMT engineering is an important part of that background, but it should not be generalised to every headphone driver. The current homepage describes HEDDphone innovations that include both AMT designs with Variable Velocity Transform and Thin-Ply Carbon drivers across the wider headphone range. Its monitoring products likewise distinguish analogue and digital solutions, with TYPE 05, TYPE 07 and TYPE 20 A-CORE offerings shown alongside MK2 monitors. ^{[1] [2]}

The MK2 ecosystem has a separate software route through HEDD CTRL, available for Windows and macOS. The homepage describes device assignment, immersive layouts and parametric EQ control for MK2 monitors and subwoofers from the listening position. TYPE 05 MK2, TYPE 20 MK2 and HEDDphone TWO are useful product entry points, while BASS subwoofers address low-frequency monitoring. The practical comparison is therefore not simply headphone versus speaker: analogue signal paths, digital adjustment and monitoring layout also differentiate the available systems. ^{[1] [2]}
