About this resource
Classic City Hi-Fi is a vintage-stereo service in Athens, Georgia, accepting repairs and restorations on a reservation basis. Its stated specialty is equipment from the 1960–1980 period, with McIntosh, Marantz, Yamaha and Pioneer named on the homepage. The business presents itself around restoring existing components rather than designing a new branded equipment range. [1]
The services page distinguishes evaluation from repair and restoration. Evaluation concerns the problems and repair cost of vintage tube and solid-state equipment. Targeted repair examples include scratchy controls, failed lamps and poor sound. Restoration is described as returning equipment to original specification through capacitor and suspect-component replacement, documented testing and cosmetic work, making it a broader intervention than addressing one reported fault. [2]
The project gallery illustrates that scope with an Accuphase E-202 integrated amplifier, McIntosh MC225 power amplifier, Harman Kardon Citation 11 preamplifier and Yamaha CR-3020 receiver. Those entries are examples of reported work, not proof of authorization by the original manufacturers. Refurbished stereos and speakers are also offered for sale. The reservation arrangement and evaluation service are useful starting points for an owner seeking work on a particular vintage unit. [2] [3]
