McIntosh

About this resource

McIntosh was founded in Silver Spring, Maryland, in 1949 and moved to Binghamton, New York, in 1951. Its official heritage account identifies Frank McIntosh and Gordon Gow and traces the early Unity Coupled amplifier circuit. The company describes current products as designed and handcrafted at its Binghamton factory. Blue watt meters and illuminated glass faceplates are recurring visual identifiers, though not features to assume on every product. ^{[1] [2]}

The range spans power amplifiers, preamplifiers, integrated amplifiers and receivers, alongside home-theatre processors, music streamers, turntables and CD players. Speakers, subwoofers, room correction and custom-installation products broaden that scope. The heritage account connects its amplification with Woodstock and the Grateful Dead’s Wall of Sound, providing historical context rather than evidence of how a present component will perform in a domestic system. ^{[1] [2]}

The current homepage highlights the CS7500 streaming preamplifier, MX124 AV processor and MA2375 vacuum-tube integrated amplifier. These make useful entry points into networked stereo, multi-channel cinema and integrated amplification respectively. Other sources can be explored separately through the streamer, turntable and disc-player categories. Because the catalogue covers both two-channel and surround arrangements, the intended system role matters before comparing model names. The dealer finder supports demonstrations, while the heritage material explains the brand’s engineering and industrial-design continuity. ^{[1] [2]}
