Hegel
Norwegian audio-electronics company whose history connects Bent Holter’s amplifier development with its SoundEngine distortion-reduction technology. Its catalogue spans integrated and separate amplification, DACs, CD players and phono stages, while current integrated models distinguish an analogue-focused path from a connected streaming-and-DAC system.
About this resource
Hegel’s history follows founder Bent Holter from building guitar and stage equipment to amplifier development while studying microelectronics in Trondheim. The company distinguishes early work and Hegel Electronics from the 1998 start of mass-produced branded amplifiers, and records the later restart as Hegel Music Systems. Those milestones are more precise than treating the beginning of an engineering project as the date of the present business. [2]
SoundEngine is a defining part of that history, described as a patented method developed to reduce amplifier distortion in real time. The catalogue also includes separate preamplifiers and power amplifiers, custom-installation amplification, CD players and phono stages. Digital conversion is another strand, with the D50 appearing as a dedicated DAC rather than assuming every source function is combined into an integrated amplifier. [1] [2]
The current homepage contrasts A200 and H200 as two system paths. A200 is presented as a fully analog integrated amplifier with an MM phono input, while H200 combines amplification with streaming, DAC functions and USB-drive playback. Both descriptions include headphone output and a phono input. This makes the integrated-amplifier section particularly useful for comparing connectivity and source requirements, rather than choosing only by amplifier power or an older review’s model lineup. [1]
