Electrocompaniet

About this resource

Electrocompaniet designs and produces audio equipment in Norway, tracing its history to 1973 and the early 25-watt Two Channel Audio Amplifier. Its history links that development with research into transient intermodulation distortion. The official company account describes manufacturing on Norway’s west coast and an export network spanning more than fifty countries, an attributed distribution description rather than an estimate of its share of the audio market. ^{[1] [2]}

The present catalogue distinguishes the Classic Line from EC Living. Classic Line includes power amplifiers, integrated amplifiers, preamplifiers, streamers and players. EC Living addresses wireless speakers and streaming amplification in a flexible multi-room arrangement. These are different system architectures: one centres on separate electronics, while the other packages network playback and amplification more closely with everyday room use. ^{[1] [2]}

The homepage’s EC 5 description illustrates the engineering detail available for individual products. It identifies a discrete, balanced, dual-mono Class A preamplifier with independent channel supplies and electronic volume control. Its volume control is described as using approximately 0.1 dB steps while keeping the signal-path topology constant as the level changes. The support routes include EC PLAY, user guides, firmware and an archived-product section, which is particularly useful when researching older Electrocompaniet components alongside the current catalogue. ^{[1] [2]}
