Headphone and IEM brands

Guide

There are a lot of headphone brands, and most "best headphones" lists change every few months. This page is different: it's the headphone and in-ear makers we've verified for the Audio-Atlas directory, with what each company says about itself and links to the sources. Use it to find makers worth researching, then go to reviews and measurements for specific models.

Over-ear and on-ear headphone makers

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between planar-magnetic and dynamic headphones?

They use different driver technologies. Audeze and HIFIMAN, both listed here, build much of their range around planar-magnetic drivers; most other headphones use dynamic drivers.

What is an IEM?

An in-ear monitor: an earphone that sits in the ear canal. Makers such as Campfire Audio, 64 Audio and Etymotic specialise in them, and 64 Audio also makes custom-fit models.
